This page brings together a selection of our lightest locking carabiners available on our website, with a clear comparison of weights and types. The aim is simple: to quickly identify the most relevant models when weight saving is the priority, without compromising on certification or intended use. For equivalent rated strength, a few grams per unit can soon add up to several hundred grams across your entire rack, especially when multiple connectors are needed for belays, personal anchors, abseils, or rope manoeuvres.

Lightweight carabiners for multi-pitch climbing and mountaineering
When setting off for a day on a big route or several days of alpine climbing, it’s essential to choose your carabiners wisely. It’s not uncommon to have half a dozen or more clipped to your harness, depending on the route. Looking at the unit weights of all the models on the market, you’ll notice that for the same certified strength, the weight can vary dramatically. By opting for the lightest options, you can save several hundred grams of hardware on your harness.

Which are the lightest carabiners?
Looking at the table above, we can see that the lightest type B carabiners are the Hawk Screw by Ocun, the Photon Lock by Camp and the Be Quick by Beal, weighing 42, 43 and 44 grams respectively. They are extremely minimalist, yet perfectly adequate for most standard manoeuvres carried out both on crags and in the mountains.
In the HMS category (class H), the Rocha Screw Lock by Petzl truly stands out, weighing only 45 grams.
As for pricing, the class B models mentioned are fairly similar. The choice will therefore depend more on the quality and feel of the locking sleeve, as well as the colour, of course.
When choosing a lightweight climbing carabiner, weight isn’t everything: the shape, locking mechanism and usage class also affect the range of possible manoeuvres. To learn more and understand the different types of carabiners, check out our guide: the different types of carabiners.
