Introducing the Salomon QST Range

The Salomon QST range is the result of Salomon's expertise and the merging of the Rocker and Quest lines. This range offers a comprehensive selection of equipment for mountain sports, from skis to ski boots, as well as garments, helmets, and goggles.

The skis in this series are renowned for their versatility and ability to tackle all mountain conditions. For example, the QST 106 is a freeride model that has won over the most daring skiers. The QST 94 stands out with its versatile 94 mm waist, providing enhanced performance on hard snow.

The QST range is not limited to these two models. It also includes junior skis and wider-waisted versions for powder hounds.

In short, the Salomon QST range is a series of skis that combine lightness, strength, and performance, ready to take on any challenge you throw at them.

Which Salomon QST ski should you choose?

When choosing a Salomon QST, the main factors to consider are your ability, the terrain you ski most often and how much importance you want to place on off-piste skiing. Waist width increases progressively across the adult range: the wider the ski, the better the float in deep snow, at the expense of a generally less natural feel on groomers.

The different Salomon QST skis

Salomon QST 94: the most versatile in the range

With its 94 mm waist, the Salomon QST 94 is the model to go for if you want to retain maximum versatility. At home on hard snow while still offering enough float to explore off-piste, it makes an excellent introduction to the freeride QST world.

  • Waist width: 94 mm

  • Performance: manoeuvrable, playful and stable, with a twin rocker that makes turning easier

  • Ideal terrain: piste, piste edges and all-mountain freeride

  • Recommended ability: intermediate to advanced

Salomon QST 100: a particularly playful freeride ski

Positioned at the heart of the range, the QST 100 delivers more float than the QST 94 while remaining very easy to handle. Its shape and generous tail rocker give it a notably lively feel in soft snow and natural terrain.

  • Waist width: 100 mm

  • Performance: agile, playful and easy to pivot

  • Ideal terrain: versatile freeride, soft snow and natural terrain

  • Recommended ability: intermediate to advanced

Salomon QST 106: more float for freeride

With 106 mm underfoot, the QST 106 is more firmly aimed at off-piste skiing and powder. It still retains enough manoeuvrability to handle different terrains and offers greater stability when the snow becomes deep or chopped up.

  • Waist width: 106 mm

  • Performance: stable, easy to handle and high-performing when speed picks up

  • Ideal terrain: freeride, powder and chopped-up snow

  • Recommended ability: advanced to expert

S/LAB QST Blank: for big powder days

The S/LAB QST Blank takes freeride ambitions further with its 112 mm waist. Its width and construction provide float in powder, along with the support needed to ski fast and stay composed when conditions become more variable.

  • Waist width: 112 mm

  • Construction: poplar core, basalt and fibreglass layers, titanal reinforcement under the binding and Cork Damplifier

  • Ideal terrain: powder, chopped-up snow and freeride

  • Recommended ability: advanced to expert

S/LAB QST X: the powder specialist

With 116 mm underfoot, the S/LAB QST X is the most specialised ski in the selection. Its substantial width and pronounced rocker are designed to promote lifting, pivoting and that surfy feeling in very deep snow.

  • Waist width: 116 mm

  • Construction: karuba and poplar core, carbon and flax fibres, Cork Damplifier

  • Ideal terrain: deep powder and big freeride lines

  • Recommended ability: advanced to expert

Junior Salomon QST skis

The QST family also includes several models for children and teenagers. The QST Jr skis prioritise ease of use and progression, while the QST Blank Team is closer in spirit to the adult models.

Salomon QST Jr S: for learning and building confidence

The QST Jr S is designed for younger skiers. Light and easy to manoeuvre, it helps work on the basics and link those first turns with a ski that is not physically demanding.

  • Waist width: 66 mm

  • Performance: light, forgiving and easy to steer

  • Ideal terrain: piste and learning

  • Recommended ability: beginner to intermediate

Salomon QST Jr M: supporting progression

Larger than the QST Jr S, the QST Jr M supports children and teenagers as they become more independent. It remains friendly while providing more stability for progressing on groomers and across more varied snow conditions.

  • Waist width: 68 mm

  • Performance: manoeuvrable, stable and progressive

  • Ideal terrain: piste and exploring more varied terrain

  • Recommended ability: beginner to intermediate

Salomon QST Blank Team: freeride for young skiers

The QST Blank Team stands out clearly from the QST Jr skis thanks to its freeride focus. Its tip and tail rocker and wood core give it a more playful feel for exploring piste edges, fresh snow and natural terrain.

  • Waist width: 88 to 92 mm depending on length

  • Performance: playful, manoeuvrable and more capable than the QST Jr skis

  • Ideal terrain: junior freeride, piste edges and powder

  • Recommended ability: intermediate to advanced

How do you choose between the QST 94, 100 and 106?

The QST 94, 100 and 106 cover a large part of all-mountain and freeride skiing. To simplify the choice, it helps to think about how often the skier leaves groomers.

The QST 94 is the most versatile choice if piste skiing still takes up a significant part of the day. The QST 100 offers more float and, above all, a very playful character for anyone who likes to mix up the terrain. The QST 106 becomes more relevant when off-piste skiing and the search for fresh snow clearly take priority.

Beyond that, the S/LAB QST Blank and S/LAB QST X cater to more specialised use, where powder, width and stability in freeride become the priority.

FAQ about Salomon QST skis

What is the difference between the Salomon QST 94 and the QST 100?

The QST 94 has a narrower waist, which makes edge changes easier and makes it more versatile on hard snow. With a 100 mm waist and a more generous rocker, the QST 100 gains float and has a more playful off-piste character. The QST 94 is therefore better suited to a skier who regularly alternates between piste and freeride, while the QST 100 is more focused on natural terrain and powder snow.

What is the difference between the Salomon QST 100 and the QST 106?

The QST 100 prioritises manoeuvrability and versatility, while the QST 106 offers a larger surface area for skiing powder. A skier looking for a pair that can be used every day in very varied conditions may prefer the QST 100. The QST 106 is better suited to someone who spends more time off-piste and wants more float when the snow gets deep.

Which Salomon QST should you choose for powder?

The QST 106 is already an excellent choice for regular powder skiing while still keeping some versatility. For big fresh-snow days, the S/LAB QST Blank offers even more surface area and stability. At around 116 mm underfoot, the S/LAB QST X is the most specialised model for deep snow.

Are Salomon QST skis suitable for piste use?

Yes, but their on-piste ability varies depending on width. The QST 94 is the best suited to regular use on groomed runs thanks to its relatively modest waist. The QST 100 remains versatile but starts to favour natural terrain more strongly. The QST 106, S/LAB QST Blank and S/LAB QST X are more logically aimed at off-piste skiing and powder.

Which Salomon QST should you choose for a child?

The QST Jr S and QST Jr M are the most suitable models for learning and progressing on piste. The QST Jr S suits the smallest sizes and young skiers still developing their fundamentals. The QST Jr M supports older, more independent children. For a youngster who is already confident and wants to discover more piste edges and freeride, the QST Blank Team is the most suitable option.

What is the difference between a QST Jr and the QST Blank Team?

The QST Jr skis focus above all on ease of use and progression. The QST Blank Team has a construction and profile more geared towards freeride, with greater versatility on natural terrain and in fresh snow. It is therefore aimed at young skiers who already have solid technical foundations.
