A Technical Ice Axe with a Razor-Sharp Pick Built for Ice

The Quark is a technical mountaineering ice axe that has firmly established itself in Petzl’s range. Its banana-shaped pick and finely balanced centre of gravity make anchoring in hard ice noticeably easier. The Quark is an excellent choice for icefalls and gullies, while still performing efficiently on snow chutes. One swing is all it takes for the pick to bite perfectly into the ice. Its pronounced curved shaft also makes disengaging the axe smooth and effortless.

Certification: this axe is Type 2 certified (formerly Type T), both for the pick and the shaft. It is suitable for use on snow, ice, and rock, can serve as a snow anchor and even be used as part of a hauling system.

Adze and Hammer Versions for Every Situation

The Quark is available in an adze version (ideal for digging snow anchors or clearing snow from icefalls) and a hammer version—well, more of a mini-hammer—lightweight and minimalist, yet still capable of re-driving a bolt or piton when needed. Ideally, owning both versions covers all scenarios.

Trigrest for a Perfect Grip

Integrated into most of Petzl’s technical axes, the Trigrest is a small adjustable finger rest that slides along the shaft and locks into place easily. On the Quark, the Trigrest ensures an excellent grip. It's complemented by the Griprest hand rest at the bottom of the shaft. Together, these features make the Quark fully usable without a leash.
